Barnsley Council are seeking a Youth Prevention Worker. The role is 37 hours, Fixed term until 31 March 2024. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £31,099 – £33,820 per annum. The Youth Prevention Worker role: The Youth Prevention Worker will be part of our community youth team and will focus on the elements of building relationships with young people by providing an intensive and targeted response through early help and support as well as an additional layer of community networking and intelligence. Together with other agencies, this position will be key to the ‘hold and build’ elements of the strategy and help to identify those young people in need of additional support and / or intervention away from organised criminal activity. The programme will use interventions that are relationship based, include positive activities and build resilience within community networks. We are therefore looking for a dynamic individual who will bring knowledge and understanding of holistic assessments to ensure we put the right intervention in place for children and families. Responsibilites of our Youth Prevention Worker: Ensure that children, young people and families are effectively assessed, planned for, engaged with and suitably reviewed in a manner that enhances the likelihood of their behaviour changing Develop based upon identified needs, issue based one to one and group interventions for young people who are of concern and are at risk of statutory escalation and involvement b which focuses on participation, achievement, attainment and positive lifestyle choices Have the responsibility for the development and delivery of an early intervention and prevention offer as part of a broader diversionary scheme Develop planned interventions that have a clear initial assessment, targets and objectives which are regularly reviewed with the young person and family utilising relevant and current holistic assessment tools, referring on to specialist services as appropriate Work as part of a multi-disciplinary function ensuring referrals and pathways are appropriate to the presenting level of needs and risk and that effective and responsive deployment of resources is in line with customer and service requirements in order to achieve the best possible outcomes Compile intelligence/evidence packages to inform the effective deployment of resources to ensure the delivery of timely, coordinated and appropriate interventions in line with demand, service policies and procedures Act as an appropriate role model for children and young people at all times Ensure that the needs of the child are understood in the context of the families in which they live and to ensure that the needs of those families are recognised and strategies put in place to address those needs To ensure that children, young people are their parents complete the interventions to which they are subject and that their orders are effectively enforced and managed in line with National Standards at the same time Ensure that that all files / records are maintained in line with relevant guidelines, including recordings of information Undertake appropriate referrals to specialist and statutory services where needs are identified within the remit of Early Help in line with relevant sharing protocols Work collaboratively with multiagency partners to support the holistic needs of children, young people and families Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Youth Prevention Worker: Relevant Level 4 Qualification or Equivalent Relevant and substantial experience of engaging with challenging young people and families who are engaging in risk taking behaviours and experience of delivering interventions to address these Substantial experience of multi agency working to develop integrated services for children and families Experience working with children, young people or adults who are involved in the criminal justice system or other statutory provision such as Children’s Social Care Experience of developing and leading packages of multi-agency or multi-agency support Experience of writing and presenting assessment for a variety of forums A lot to look forward to: Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do.
