Assistant Transport Manager
Managing a fleet of c300 vehicles/trailers, a mixture of tractor units, wagon and drag 7.5t to 18t & 200+ drivers & 15 office staff
Barnsley Based
Monday to Friday 37.5 hours and Holiday entitlement is 25 days plus 8 bank holidays
In order to be successful in this role you must:
•Have at least 2 years’ experience in a similar Transport/Logistics management role, including general haulage
•Have good vehicle knowledge, including R&M ideally with previous fleet management experience
•Hold a CPC or be willing to work towards one
•Be a FORS practitioner or be willing to work towards this
•Have working knowledge of transport and driver regulations
•Have experience in compliance management
•Hold a full UK driving licence
•Have excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, at all levels, internally and externally
•Have a proactive, flexible approach with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
•Be confident and able to be firm in your decision making and communications
•Have excellent organisational skills and a working knowledge of all IT systems
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Transport Manager to join the existing Transport team in Barnsley. This is the ideal opportunity for someone with existing transport and vehicle management experience looking for a new challenge, potentially to take a step-up from a smaller fleet and to take on more responsibilities, although the title is ‘Assistant’ you will have a large amount of autonomy and be responsible for all the things a Manager would be, including transport operations, planning and administration teams, along with the daily responsibility for a dedicated team of around 200 drivers – and the salary offered reflects this (Call Halo Personnel for more info – we have recruited for this company for 17 years, so we are best-placed to support you through the recruitment process).
The key responsibilities will include:
•Managing all employee related issues, including performance, attendance, accident investigations, etc. both formally and informally with drivers and operational staff
•Dealing with legal compliance, tachograph rules, tracking systems and drivers’ infringements
•Taking appropriate action against any infringements
•Ensuring the Transport Department meet all relevant Transport and Health and Safety Legislation
•Managing and processing orders and invoices for the fleet, including liaising with the repairers
•Manage FORS compliance
•Processing drivers’ weekly wages, including absences and expenses
•Covering for the Transport Manager as required
